How do you paint on feathers?

The process goes something like this:  As soon as I obtain my feathers, I put them in the freezer to kill any mites that may damage the painting.  When I receive a commission, I request a large, detailed reference photo and choose the feather(s) that best fit with the subject.  I then use either acrylic or oil paints, gradually building accurate shading and detail.

Do you accept commissions?  Does it cost extra?

Yes!  I gladly accept commissions.  And no, I don't charge extra.  Art is personal, so each wood-burning or feather painting should reflect the personality of the person who owns it.  All I need is a good-quality, detailed photo to work off of (digital photos are great, and the larger the photo, the better).

What is the process for commissioning a work of art?

Email me at the above link stating the type of work you're interested in (wood-burning or feather painting) and the subject.  If there is a particular subject you'd like (i.e. your black lab), please attach a large, good-quality photo to your email.  If you'd just like a generalized subject (i.e. a tom turkey), I can find my own reference.  As soon as I receive your email, I will confirm your order with you so you know I've received it.  I can then send you a quote and let you know approximately how much time I will need to complete it.  If you need it by a certain date (for Christmas or a birthday), please let me know and I will do my best to get it to you on time.  When I've completed the project, I will send you an email with a photo of the finished work attached.  If it meets your approval, I will request payment and a mailing address.  At this time, I only accept Paypal for non-local orders.

How much do you charge for each wood-burning / feather painting?

Since each work of art is different, the prices vary depending on the size and the amount of detail, time and materials invested.  I do, however, wish to keep my prices as reasonable as possible.  If a work of art is available, I will have a price beneath it.  If you'd like to commission a wood-burning or a feather painting, please contact me with your ideas and I'll send you an estimate (see link above).

I have another question!  Can I email you?

Definitely!  I'm always willing to answer any questions you may have about my artwork, and I try to answer all emails in a timely manner.  Please see the "Contact" link above.
